Embrace the Camera….photos with my dad….

It is Embrace the Camera time and this week I was prepared….I thought ahead of time who I wanted to take a photo with….and I thought of my dad….

Since my mom passed away 1 1/2 years ago…. I have wished that I had more photos of her with me and my children……

I haven’t taken a lot of photos of my dad..and I don’t think I have any of him with just me…and my daughter River….I was so excited to set the camera up and try to get some shots….but my camera wasn’t cooperating…..I took some, but when I got home I realized they were blurry (I had the camera accidentally focus on the wall..instead of on us)…but I’m posting them anyway….though I’ve told myself I must..in the near future….take more photos with him..and this time have all three of my children in the photo!

This post was inspired by Emily and her blog, 3 Boys and a Little Lady……..

Halloween photo tradition…..

So every Halloween we take photos of ourselves imitating our pumpkin…well, that is the idea…..some years we forget and by the time we take the photos..the pumpkins are rotten…..Well, this year I remembered…but the squirrels had already eaten them a bit…..and…

I let River help me carry the pumpkins inside…from the front porch…and she was carrying her big pumpkin and we were saying..be careful…you don’t want to drop it…because it will splatter….and she very carefully…..made it to the dining room…and she very carefully placed it onto the table…and then…..very carefully let go of it……..and it very carefully…rolled off the table and splattered……but we “mended” it back together and all was good…..thank goodness….

The idea is to “look” like your pumpkin….but that doesn’t always work out……

Embrace the Camera……lovin’ it……

So, I wanted to participate in Embrace the Camera with Emily over at her blog, 3 boys and a little lady….and I wanted to take photos with my three children…I can’t tell you if I have ever taken photos with just me and my three children…how sad is that??  Well, River instantly decided she wanted no part of it…..so Quinn and Tuesday and I took a bunch of photos..we had so much fun..and then at the end…River joined us..though she was still a bit grumpy.

We had so much fun taking all the photos..and it was great to get some good ones of just me and Tuesday and then me and Quinn and then the three of us….and then River…..

We took a million photos..I had a hard time picking out my favorites!!

Embrace the camera…with upside down chin faces….

It is Embrace the Camera time again…….from Emily and her blog, 3 boys and a little lady.  It was supposed to happen yesterday, but I wasn’t able to post….too much craziness!

So, we decided to have some fun……and we had a blast!  We had so many great pictures….and laughed so hard..I didn’t know which photos to choose from…..we did the classic upside down mouth/face photos!  At first, River thought it sounded too strange and wouldn’t participate..but once she saw how much fun we were having..she wanted to jump right in and have her photo taken!

Tuesday and I were upside down on the sofa…with a blanket covering the top part of our heads….and I was holding the camera……trying to take photos..but it was just too hard…and we were laughing way too much!!  Then, I decided to just take the photos normally…..(if you can call it that!) and then turn them upside down and crop them in Photoshop…so much easier! The first set of photos are of Tuesday and I…..

Then there are some of Quinn and I…..

And the last one is of Tuesday and River……We had an awesome time!!

Have a great Friday and enjoy your weekend…go take some great photos with your kids!!

Shoot Along Challenge…Then + Now…..

So, last Wednesday, over at Giverslog, Amberlee and Carrie Butler had another  shoot along challenge…..then and now….recreating the same photo……

Well, that is an easy one for me…I am a bit of a fanatic about this!  I love to recreate the same photo every year!  We do it at Christmas, Halloween…all the time!  Seriously, I am addicted to doing this…I had a hard time deciding what photos to show for this post!  This is one of my favorite things to do with photography!

One of my favorite “then and now” photos is a photograph that I took of my oldest daughter when she was about 2 1/2 years old.  I loved this photo so much and played around with it in Photoshop…..then my husband surprised me by having it made into a poster.  When my son was the exact same age, I redid the photo…..and my husband again had it made into a poster.  I was so excited to redo the photo when my daughter was the same age…I literally counted down the days….but I no longer had the same hat and we didn’t live in the same house….so it looks slightly different.  But all three photos were taken when they were almost exactly the same age….2 years, 11 months and 25 days….

The photo montages hang in our living room…..we haven’t gotten River’s made into a poster yet…..some day soon….

The

A tree…..

Tuesday has been going to violin lessons at an art center since she was six.  On their beautiful property is a wonderful  tree that Tuesday and Quinn have always loved to climb.  While Tuesday is having her violin lesson, Quinn likes to sit in the tree and do his homework.   River, of course, also wants to climb the tree…but she isn’t exactly big enough.

She tried and tried to get up on her on..but couldn’t…so she had to agree to let me help her onto the branch.  Once she was on the branch, she was so pleased…but then she realized she wasn’t as high as Quinn…..she says she can’t wait until she is bigger, so she can climb higher.

Tuesday and Quinn still love to climb this tree.  I think because there are so few “good climbing trees” by where we live.  There are a lot of trees…but none of them with wonderful low branches…so you can climb.

Bike Philly 2010….

This past Sunday we took part in the Bike Philly 2010….except it was raining.  And it was freezing.  But it was still fun.  I love Philadelphia and I love bike rides where they close off the streets.  I think that is a pretty unique experience…to get to ride along the street, without any cars.

This was just a laid back bike ride where you road at your own pace…..except it was a bit crowded and there were a lot of inexperienced cyclists who didn’t really know the rules of the road….

But it was really fun to bike along all the historic roads in Philadelphia…the bridge, the art museum, the Franklin Institute and so many other great spots.

We were prepared for the weather….we had on rain gear and warm clothes…but a lot of people were not prepared for the bad weather.   I felt bad for the little kids who were riding in the downpour…without rain gear..and freezing…..especially the kids who were on tag alongs…connected to their parents bike…and the parents bike didn’t have a mud fender…so all the rain and mud was just flying up in their faces!

We also saw a lot of crazy trailers!  Some were way overloaded or didn’t have covers….I love our trailer…we have two, but the one we normally use is a Trek Transit Deluxe.   It is awesome for many reasons.  (I think I should do a post just about why I love this particular trailer!)….let’s just say that River stayed dry the entire time!

It was a fun morning…and a bit of a bummer that it rained…..but it was still a great time.  We were all happy to have some hot chocolate when we got home!  (Sorry that the photos aren’t that great…but it isn’t easy to take photos while riding your bike…and my little portable camera didn’t like the rain..by the end…the lens was a bit foggy!)
